How to burn the perfect candle every time

Candle Care

Today we are sharing our tips on how to burn your candle perfectly, every time you light it. Why? Because there's nothing chic about sooty glass, mounds of wax and hissing flames.

The first burn.

The first burn is always the most important one of them all. You need to allow the candle wax to pool to the edge of the container during the initial burn.

We always like to remind people that wax has a memory, meaning that if your candle doesn't burn to the edges, it will begin to tunnel down in the centre nearest to the wick and it won't burn evenly the next time you light it.

Steer clear of a breeze.

Keeping the candle away from airstreams like open AC vents, windows, or fans is crucial to ensuring the flame melts the wax evenly. If you have a breeze blowing over your candle, you may find that one side of your candle will melt faster than the other.

Don't burn it out.

In a perfect scenario, a person would burn their candles for four hours each time and not more than once every 24 hours to prolong the life of that candle. Burning for more than four hours can cause the wick to form a mushroom, or carbon deposit, on the tip. The more carbon, the more soot and smoke that your candle will release onto the container and into the air while burning.

Keep your wick trimmed.

Occasionally you might notice a mushrooming of the wick of the candle, especially if you have accidentally burned the candle for longer than the recommended burn time. To provide the cleanest burn possible, we recommend you trim the mushroom off of the wick before burning the candle again.
